Civic Library

During my exchange programme in Mainz, Germany the main project was to design a civic library with floor area of 6150m2. It had to provide facilities for children and adult libraries, science library, public space and staff offices. The project turned out to be an interesting creative and structural exercise. The main idea came from assumption that libraries are at risk of becoming obsolete due to the dominance of internet, hence the possible solution would be a space which would attract attention and provoke interest. The main concept was to raise library building above the public ground floor, making them clearly visible from the distance, allowing to promote the library in a direct, visual way.
